Queering Mental Health Supports in Canada: New Report Egale Canada is pleased to share our newly released report: Queering Mental Health Supports in Canada. This research report provides insights on the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on 2SLGBTQI people's mental health care needs, as well as the needs of mental health care providers — both 2SLGBTQI and allied providers who work with 2SLGBTQI people. The report highlights ongoing barriers that 2SLGBTQI people face in accessing mental health supports, as 2SLGBTQI people report higher rates of mental health service utilization, higher levels of dissatisfaction with these services, and greater unmet mental health needs. Exclusion, discrimination, and a lack of culturally responsive and affirming care in these systems prevent 2SLGBTQI people from accessing the services they need to manage and improve their mental health and well-being. Queering Mental Health Supports in Canada ultimately aims to bring awareness to the unique concerns and barriers 2SLGBTQI people face when trying to access mental health care, and how changes and improvements could be made in a post-pandemic Canada.
