Hi Comrade,
Have you seen the news? Nearly 340,000 UPS Teamsters nationwide are ready to strike on August 1. They're fighting for fair pay for all workers (ending the "two-tier" compensation system), to end harassment, and to create more overtime protections. You can read more about the fight here, and please sign our Strike Ready Pledge to support UPS Teamsters in the event of a strike. Remember, never cross a picket line!
If the UPS Teamsters strike, DSA members across the country will join them at the picket lines in support. If you've never been to a picket line, sign up to attend the Strike Ready Picket Training 7/25 on Zoom (even if you can't attend the call, register to receive supporting materials and a recording). Fill out this form if you are interested in joining the picket line with UPS Teamsters or other unions on strike with Akron DSA.
Is there a strike wave? Workers of thousands at Starbucks (Workers United), Southern California hotels (UNITE HERE), and Boeing (International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers) have all recently struck over fair treatment and wages. Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists have joined the Writers Guild of America in striking against major studios to level the playing field for entertainment workers in the age of AI and studios are trying to starve them out. Note that these unions are not calling for any boycotts at this time, but you can join DSA LA in supporting their strike with a donation to The Snacklist. Right here in the Rust Belt, DSA is also part of a coalition supporting UE Locals 506 & 618, who manufacture locomotives, on lockout/strike at Wabtec over economic issues, fair treatment, and a green future for rail. Donate to the UE Strike Fund here and let us know if you'd be interested in taking the 2-hour trip to this picket line in August if the strike continues.
In solidarity,
Heather Hillenbrand
