It's time to show UPS that Atlanta is a union town! ✊ Rally with Teamsters this Saturday 7/22 at 10 AM at the Teamsters 728 Union Hall at 2540 Lakewood Ave SW, Atlanta GA 30315. We'll be joined by special guest, Teamsters President Sean O'Brien! You're not going to want to miss this opportunity. Republic Teamsters Fight Back! Join us Friday, July 21 @ 4PM to rally in solidarity with the more than 180 essential waste workers in Metro Atlanta fighting for a fair contract. Teamsters Local 728 members are prepared to strike if Republic Services fail to negotiate a fair contract by July 31!  Meet at Republic Services of Atlanta 3045 Donald Lee Hollowell Pkwy Atlanta, GA 30318.

📋 Help Stop Cop City! 📋

Atlanta DSAers collected hundreds of petition signatures on Saturday, July 8th!

Our City, Our Vote! Atlanta DSA is supporting the referendum campaign to stop Cop City and invest in healthcare, education, housing, green space, and public transit for all Atlantans. Together we're working to collect 75,000 petition signatures from City of Atlanta voters to put a referendum to Stop Cop City on the November ballot! Sign up here to volunteer with Atlanta DSA for the referendum campaign.

Our electoral committee is organizing events this week:

  • Phonebanking every Wednesday at 7PM at the AFSC Office!
  • Canvassing with DSA at the Stop Cop City Weekend of Action this Saturday at 3pm!

✊ Picket Line Training 101 ✊

Ready to join the picket line in August? There are some things to know before you go! Join our picket line training 101 session, next Saturday July 31, 1PM at our next General Meeting! Meet us at 711 Catherine St SW for a training on the proper picket line etiquette. Our goal on the picket line is always to support workers and hold meaningful conversations with them -- not bring our own signs or pass out literature! Learn about the best way you can support striking workers and RSVP for the training here!
 

🍽 Tickets Available for 2023 Douglass Debs Dinner 🍽

Each year since our Atlanta DSA chapter formed in 2006–except for a two-year pandemic gap–we have invited Atlanta’s progressive community to our Douglass-Debs awards dinner, to help us honor outstanding role models and leaders, celebrate our accomplishments during the previous year, and enjoy an evening of comradeship. Last year’s dinner resumed this tradition with great success.

 

In keeping with our tribute to organized labor, we will host the 2023 Douglass-Debs Dinner in the IBEW Hall Auditorium at 153 Richardson Street SW in downtown Atlanta on Friday, August 26, 2023.

 

The dinner is a great opportunity to meet with other community activists and hear from inspiring speakers. Ticket sales and patron contributions will raise funds for our coalition partners, local community organizing, and labor union strike support. Reduced-cost tickets will be available for students and other low-income comrades. For more information contact us at [email protected]. We look forward to seeing you there!
 

🌹 General Meeting 🌹

Join us for Atlanta DSA's monthly General Meeting! We will hear the latest from our chapter's campaigns and committees, discuss current events in the chapter, and debate and vote on resolutions. All members are encouraged to attend, and interested non-members are welcome!

This meeting will be held in person, with an informal potluck/social starting at NOON, and business running from 1:00-3:00 PM. So bring your favorite dish, and a friend that's curious about getting involved with DSA.

What is Atlanta DSA? Whether you just joined DSA, you’re a longtime member looking to get more involved, or you want to know whether DSA might be your political home, this info session and Q&A will be a chance to learn more about socialism and DSA and to get an overview of our chapter.

Join us July 29th, right before our General Meeting, to learn how you can get involved with fighting capitalism and building socialism in Metro Atlanta and beyond!

At the 2022 Atlanta DSA Chapter Convention, members decided to prioritize our Chapter's labor work. We are building the labor movement by showing up for workers on the picket line, building relationships with rank-and-file union members, and helping our own members organize their workplaces.
