Friend, where we look for PFAS, we find them.

Results from EWG’s latest round of tests reinforce that message. Residents in 18 states, from California to Connecticut, took samples of their own tap water. And of the 36 locations tested, PFAS were found in the water supply at detectable levels at 32 of them.

What’s more, PFAS were found not only in major cities like Austin, Texas, Denver and Los Angeles but in smaller ones too, like Glencoe, Ill., and Monroe, N.J. PFAS were even found in areas where they hadn’t yet been reported.

These findings are indicative of what to expect when the EPA releases first-time data from thousands of public water systems across the U.S, which they’re set to do later this month. The EPA’s release is likely to show the full scale of the PFAS problem is worse than previously thought, consistent with EWG scientists’ 2020 estimate that over 200 million Americans could have PFAS in their drinking water.
