Can nuclear weapons ever deliver real security? – CND side meeting at the NPT PrepComm 2023

From 31 July to 11 August, states will gather at the UN in Vienna to discuss the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons Treaty (NPT). Join CND for this online side meeting where we will discuss if nuclear weapons can ever deliver real security.

This event will look at how the UK government defines security, how its nuclear arsenal fits into this framework, and how British actions impact on the global security order. Along with our panel of experts, attendees will also be able to discuss ways of forwarding the cause of nuclear disarmament at a time of heightened nuclear risk.

  • Thursday, 3 August
  • 3:00-4:30pm
  • Online, register here

With guest speakers: Aidan Liddle, UK Ambassador to the Conference on Disarmament; Rebecca Johnson, CND Vice-President, Acronym, ICAN; and Trish Whitham, NIS coordinator. Chaired by Kate Hudson, CND General Secretary.
