Summer is in full swing! Baseball, beaches, barbecues – it’s a wonderful time of the year. Throughout June and the first half of July, I’ve been hard at work in Congress. My colleagues and I have introduced a slate of bills recently, addressing everything from public health to manufacturing, environmental protection, veterans’ benefits, and more. It’s been a busy season!

I’m looking forward to what this year will bring! As always, I’m grateful to have your support.

Caring for our Veterans
Scott is a champion for our veterans. He reintroduced a resolution to raise awareness of post-traumatic stress injury in veterans. Ongoing stigma around mental health too often prevents veterans and servicemembers from seeking the care they need. In designating June as National Post-Traumatic Stress Injury (PTSI) Awareness Month and June 27th as National PTSI Awareness Day, Scott is working to support our veterans and ensure they can access lifesaving mental health care.

Helping Veterans’ Families Access Healthcare
The Civilian Health and Medical Program of the Department of Veterans Affairs (CHAMPVA) is a critical lifeline for families of disabled and deceased veterans seeking health insurance coverage. But barriers in the application process have kept many from accessing this program. That’s why Scott introduced bipartisan legislation to streamline the process with an online application. America must keep its promise to our nation’s heroes by ensuring accessible care for veterans and their families.

Proactive Fiscal Responsibility
If we learned anything from this year’s debt ceiling crisis that nearly sent our country into economic disaster, it’s that we shouldn’t wait until we’re on the brink of default to take control of our fiscal future. That’s why Scott launched the Bipartisan Fiscal Forum (BFF), a group dedicated to working to proactively and sustainably address our nation’s debt trajectory.

NDAA Amendment – Fighting Water Pollution
San Diegans have been harmed by pollution crossing the border in the Tijuana River Valley for far too long. That’s why Scott introduced an amendment to the 2024 National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), calling on the Biden administration to declare this wastewater contamination a federal emergency. In doing so, we can more quickly and aggressively fight this disaster. Scott will keep working to ensure the health and safety of our communities.

Investing in U.S. Manufacturing
Last year, Congress passed the historic CHIPS and Science Act, delivering major investments in innovation in San Diego and across the country. To build on this important progress, this week Scott introduced legislation to streamline approvals for projects supported by CHIPS, while still adhering to environmental review processes. With this boost, the U.S. will be better able to protect national security interests, strengthen manufacturing, and uphold climate goals.

Protecting Communities from Wildfire Smoke
As wildfires continue to increase in frequency and intensity, so too does the harm to human health caused by the smoke. Scott joined with his Senate colleagues to introduce legislation aimed at reducing the negative public health effects of wildfire smoke on vulnerable communities. From air filtration units to air monitors, and creating clean air centers for those most affected by wildfire smoke, this bill will protect our most vulnerable.
