Well, John — with conservatives driven by alternative facts and outright lies, it shouldn’t be a surprise that the recent Supreme Court decision that chipped away at LGBTQ+ rights was based on a made-up set of facts.
Not only did the Supreme Court’s right-wing majority break from precedent by eroding LGBTQ+ rights — they also broke from precedent by ruling on a case where the plaintiff had no standing, the facts had not developed, and there was no action to correct.

Lorie Smith was supposedly a wedding web designer (even though she had never designed a wedding website) who didn’t want to make a website for a gay couple (even though no gay couple ever tried to enlist her services), so she went to court.
Why? Because that’s what ultraconservatives do when they don’t want to play by the rules.
But nowhere along the way did anyone actually verify Smith’s story. They just took her at her word that she wanted to discriminate, and that she didn’t want the law to stop her from discriminating.
What Smith did is despicable, but we’re not in the habit of aiming the wrath of Worst Behavior Watch at regular citizens, no matter how horrible their actions. Instead, we’re calling out the six conservative justices on the Supreme Court who were chomping at the bit — so eager to carve into LGBTQ+ rights, that they accepted a case that was stitched together with hypotheticals.
