Victory: Connecticut Approved Bill Expanding Access to Obesity Care!

Connecticut recently approved a bill that expands Medicaid and Husky B coverage for prescription weight-loss drugs, nutrition counseling and bariatric surgery. OAC applauds Connecticut decision-makers for prioritizing comprehensive obesity care, as the recent legislation will give patients and healthcare providers more tools on their journey to improved health.

The Legislator: How Weight Bias Keeps People From Obesity Care

OAC’s Immediate-past Board Chair, Patty Nece, JD, and Advocacy Manager, Chrystal Jones, MPA, were recently published in The Legislator, the National Black Caucus of State Legislators’ official magazine. This thought-provoking story highlights the challenges faced by people with obesity and the lack of comprehensive healthcare coverage for obesity treatments. It emphasizes the need to recognize obesity as a disease and providing equal access to evidence-based treatments, including counseling, medications, and bariatric surgery.
