Dear Friend -

When Oxfam America staffer Vania Loredo was in the 10th grade, she and her family woke up one morning to a swastika painted outside their apartment building.

They came from Peru to the US just two months after 9/11. And over the last 18 years, their life in the US has left her with a lot of mixed feelings.

"My family and I have felt how racism and fear of 'the other' have taken over the media. But we have also seen how people come together and try to help each other ... In this way, I feel that our life in the US has been a constant discussion of acceptance and rejection."

On this President's Day, Vania has a message for the next US president: No matter where or how you live in this world, we are all human. Dignity for All matters.

In 2020 and beyond, Oxfam's work to hold the powerful accountable means elevating the voices of the people who have the most at stake. When we end the injustice of poverty, it will be because all of us found our way to make a difference.
