Did you see my team’s email yesterday, folks?

Now that we’re past the primaries, it looks like the GOP in Virginia decided to ramp up their game…

And they’re doing it by ripping a page straight out of Democrats’ playbook. After years of conservatives trying to discredit early voting through bogus claims about fraudulent absentee voting, Virginia Republicans are making a big investment in early voting.

The thing is, there’s no point in dwelling on the hypocrisy. Instead, I’m going to say one thing: We have to take this seriously. If the GOP is stepping up their game, we’ll step up ours.

The reason for their change of heart on early voting is straightforward. There’s 140 seats up for grabs in the General Assembly and they know that if they don’t ramp up their efforts now, Democrats are going to hold on to the state Senate and take back the House of Delegates to turn Virginia blue.

We need a massive grassroots turnout today to fight back against the VA GOP’s latest efforts to win full control of the General Assembly in the fall. So, I’m personally asking if you can chip in anything you can to help us reach our mid-month fundraising goal to help Democrats step up their game and win this horse race.

At the end of the day, I’m hopeful this spells the end of Republicans’ fear mongering around early voting. Perhaps we may eventually even find some consensus around the kinds of voting rights and voter access reforms the GOP has fought against for so long. But for right now, we have to stay focused on our goal of turning out the votes we need to win this November.
