Dear MoveOn member,
From the torrential rain and floods drowning Vermont and parts of upstate
New York to the dangerous and unrelenting heat baking the Southwest,
extreme weather is becoming the new normal, supercharged by climate
change.^1
In Vermont, the Winooski River, which runs through Montpelier, crested at
21 feet early on Tuesday.^2
Thousands of people in Vermont have lost their homes or businesses—-or
both.^3 A hardware store owner in in downtown Barre, Vermont, has nine
feet of rain in his store's flooded basement, causing him to lose an
estimated $300,000 in inventory.^4
A 43-year-old woman in upstate New York died in a flash flood last Sunday
while trying to rescue her dad's dog.^5
More than 50 million people across the South and West are experiencing
dangerous and deadly levels of heat.^6
In response to this extreme weather, climate activist Bill McKibben said,
"This is the last slap upside the head we're going to get when it might
still matter. It's obviously a pivotal moment in the Earth's climatic
history. It also needs to be a pivotal moment in the Earth's political
history."^7
John, we urgently need to intensify pressure on lawmakers at
all levels of government to confront the climate crisis. That's why MoveOn
just printed a big batch of these "Earth Can't Wait" stickers, and we are
giving them away for FREE while supplies last.

somewhere visible to call attention to the climate crisis?

The hottest days ever recorded on the planet occurred a week ago Tuesday.
That record was tied the next day. And then broken again the day after
that.^8
And, yet, there's still reason for optimism: We still have a window to
prevent ever-worsening extreme weather events and catastrophic climate
change by coming together to pressure lawmakers to end our reliance on
fossil fuels and shift to clean, renewable energy.
The time is now. And it couldn't be more urgent.
[ [link removed] ]You can help add more pressure on lawmakers to act with fierce urgency
to tackle the climate crisis by ordering your free "Earth Can't Wait"
sticker, displaying it prominently, and sharing this email with your
family and friends so that they can learn more and order their own
sticker. Click here to get yours today.
Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to
right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from
their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile,"
filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around
to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will
attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into
2024, we need your help.
