Hi Mary,
Netroots Nation Day 3 ended with a big dose of hope from some of our newest progressive heroes in Congress—Reps. Summer Lee, Greg Casar, Delia Ramirez and Maxwell Frost. The four freshmen shared stories about why they chose to run for office and what their experience has been during their first months in Congress. It's clear they are energized and ready to fight for the communities they represent and build the progressive future we're all working toward.
Congressional Progressive Caucus Chair Pramila Jayapal gave a fiery speech underscoring the importance of organizing beyond elections. It's not enough to just elect more Democrats; we need to elect leaders with the courage to fight for systemic change like filibuster reform. "We have to change the rules AND the rulers," she said. Congresswoman Jayapal also implored our community to move forward with courage: "Courage is a muscle that gets stronger with usage."
Later in the afternoon, our featured panels tackled how we address systemic racism in policing; the importance of organizing to reform the Supreme Court; how state Attorneys General are responding to gun violence in their states; and how climate advocacy can help Democrats win in 2024.
