Grumpy person with statement Amazon: Do Better!

Dear Friend,

Thank you to the thousands of members who acted this week, pushing Amazon to do better!

Together with Amazon workers across the globe, we are demanding an end to their company's unfair labor practices, starting with the warehouse workers in the US who are injured on the job at shockingly high rates.

We are also pushing Amazon to protect workers, customers, and the planet  from the thousands of toxic chemicals used to make clothing they sell. We will also keep pressing Amazon until it has followed through on their commitment to 100% clean energy by 2025, and reduce their climate footprint overall.

I hope this incredible work makes you proud to be a Green American.
Please consider making a special donation to support our Amazon campaigns today.

We will not stop fighting this behemoth until we see Amazon take meaningful action to protect people and the planet.

What makes Amazon bad? Here is the latest from the frontline:

  • Questionable circumstances surround workers deaths at Amazon facilities: four workers died last year within a month. And this year, another worker died while working at the company’s cross-dock facility. A 911 call showed dehydration as the only cited cause for the fatal medical emergency.
  • Senator Bernie Sanders is investigating Amazon's unfair and unsafe labor practices. In his letter to Amazon, the senator described conditions at Amazon’s warehouses as “uniquely dangerous” and pointed to a report that found the company’s serious injury rate in 2021 was double the warehouse industry average of the same year.

  • The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is suing Amazon for making it ridiculously hard to cancel Prime memberships.

  • Brace yourself for this one: Amazon's carbon emissions have skyrocketed by a mind-boggling 18%, despite their grand climate pledges.

And why do we know Green America can push them to do better?
Because we already have.
Let’s keep the momentum going! Donate today.

Amazon might not admit it, but they know with over 300,000 consumer activists backing our campaigns, Green America has the power to push them to do better.

•    Our “Amazon: Build a Cleaner Cloud” campaign got Amazon from 0% to commit to 100% renewal energy by 2025. And while their skyrocketing carbon emissions are another hurdle for us to jump, we will not stop pushing them on their commitment to 100% renewables, until it is the reality!

•    Our Toxic Textile campaign pressured Amazon to protect consumers and workers from the toxic chemicals often found in apparel. This year Amazon announced that its private label brands will comply with AFIRM’s Restricted Substance List (RSL) for apparel, accessories, and footwear products in North America, Europe, and Japan. This is an important first step forward, but much more needs to be done.

We stand with Amazon workers from the United States to Germany, who are putting their foot down and demanding an end to their company's unfair labor practices.

And we are pushing Amazon to ban toxic chemicals in clothing and follow through on their climate commitments…but they won’t do this unless you and I keep the pressure on them. Please help fund this work today!

Together, we are a powerful force for good,

Alisa Gravitz
President
Green America

P.S. Please support our work to get America’s biggest retailers to reduce their climate emissions and protect workers, with a tax-deductible donation—today. Thank you!
