A photo of the Sierra Madre rainforest canopy in the Philippines

John,

Francisco Elle is haunted by images of lifeless children lined up on the street the day his village was washed away, in a landslide he refers to simply as “nature’s revenge”.

Such unspeakable tragedies have surged in the Philippines’ Sierra Madre mountains as relentless loggers have hacked through its rich rainforests, tearing away centuries-old trees – and the protection they provide against the region’s raging typhoons.

But now Francisco and a team of determined volunteers are providing new hope for this sacred place, restoring the rainforest tree by tree, acre by acre – then guarding the new growth from loggers and miners. And if we all chip in, we can help them get further, faster.

Just $/€/£ 1 will restore one square metre of rich rainforest – and protect the people and animals who depend on it. Imagine how much we could save.

Francisco was once a logger himself. Now he dedicates his life to reviving what’s been lost. Can you chip in to help give new life to this precious rainforest?

The forests of the Sierra Madre are thought to be home to more threatened species than anywhere else on the planet. And they provide a vital buffer against extreme weather for millions of people. Locals call the mountain range their "mother" and "protector".

But now, a brutal grab for timber, nickel, and copper is decimating this vital ecosystem, stripping away trees that have stood on its slopes for hundreds of years. 90% of the ancient trees here are already gone.

Local heroes like Francisco, led by the Haribon Foundation, are working flat out to save these forests – and species that depend on them, like the magnificent Philippine eagle. Through the Forest for Life Movement, Haribon and its partners have already restored 22,000 hectares. But this is a mammoth task, and they need all the help they can get.

With your support, the team can buy and nurture vastly more native seedlings, prepare the ground for planting, train volunteers, and support forest rangers who guard the trees. And we can also boost campaigns to protect rainforests globally. Can you chip in today?
