As the Ohio legislature strips away our unalienable rights, volunteers are heroically flying Ohioans across state borders to receive necessary reproductive and gender-affirming care. This flight for freedom evokes memories of dystopian and oppressive regimes, but this is a reality for millions of Americans.

People should not have to flee their states for healthcare, but recent Supreme Court decisions have left many people, especially women, people of color, and transgender people, feeling like they need to.

As a Black woman, Shontel knows and dreads the trajectory of our country if federal civil rights are not enshrined and enforced. The only way to protect the rights of every Ohioan–of every American–is with new federal protections. But to do it, we must take back the House in 2024.
