Hey John,

Did you know that Direct Action Everywhere is one of the only grassroots animal rights groups to have elections? Earlier today, we hosted our third-ever elections, where organizers voted in the new leadership team for 2020-2022, including the lead organizer (that's me!), four other members of core, and the secretary. I am proud to be part of an organization that values democracy and emergent leadership and I am honored to serve in the role of lead organizer. I started my activism journey back in Vancouver, Canada and it's now taken me all the way to Berkeley where I spend my days developing DxE's campaign strategy, growing our community, raising funds, and mentoring other activists. Let me tell you a little bit about the four other elected core members:

Matthew Dempsky, who has been organizing with DxE since 2016 and is member of the National Association of Parliamentarians, was elected as the chapter secretary.

I am excited to get to work with this new team and keep making change for animals. But please remember that we don't need to wait for someone to elect us, we can take action now! I hope you will join us soon for an event, whether that's an animal sanctuary visit, vegan pop-up, or protest. And if you’re inspired by DxE's vision to create revolutionary change for animals in one generation, you can support our work by becoming a monthly supporterMonthly supporters allow us to keep rescuing animals, changing laws, and developing activists, plus you get invited to a monthly exclusive video chat with me and special guests where we go behind the scenes of what we've been up to!

Looking forward to talking with you soon,

Almira
