Dear John

If there was a solution which could simultaneously protect our precious countryside, reduce energy bills and tackle the climate emergency, would you support it? We hope like us, your answer would be a resounding yes!

The potential of rooftop solar is vast, which is why we’re calling on the government to commit to a target for at least 60% of the solar energy required by 2035 to be delivered through rooftop solar. But how much do you really know about its potential? Scroll down to take our quiz and find out!

July is National Picnic Month, so another great excuse to enjoy the great outdoors! Nature writer Alexandra Pearce-Broomhead shares about the wildlife you might encounter while out and about in your local countryside or green space this month - read on to find out more.

Rooftop solar: how much do you know?

From protecting countryside to reducing energy bills and cutting carbon emissions, the potential for rooftop solar is huge. But how much do you really know? We’ve come up with a three minute quiz to test your knowledge on all things solar. Think you’re solar-savvy enough to pass? Find out below and share your results with your family and friends!

Rural Homelessness Counts: CPRE joins new coalition

Rural Housing Week took place 3-7 July and helped to shed a light on the hidden crisis of homelessness in the countryside. Earlier this year, we launched a report featuring research commissioned by English Rural, which revealed that there’s been a 24% increase in rural homelessness in the past year. As part of the Rural Homelessness Counts Coalition, we’re proud to be doing our bit to help end rough sleeping in rural areas.

A year of achievement and change

Over the last year, we’ve seen some amazing campaign wins, thanks to your help. The hedgerow campaign and lobbying on the Levelling up and Regeneration Bill have played big roles in the CPRE year. Our annual review highlights what your support has helped us achieve – read on to find out more.

Wildlife to watch out for in July

The weather tends to be balmy in July, with the occasional heatwave giving in to thunderstorms. Weather depending, heading out at dusk is a great opportunity to enjoy a sunset at this time of year and catch a glimpse of a barn owl, like the one pictured. There’s a lot happening in the natural world this month, so read on to find out more about the wildlife you can discover.
