Friend, This week was an important one for the pro-life movement. Thanks to Governor Kim Reynolds and the Iowa legislature, countless lives will be saved in Iowa. I am grateful for their work to defend the unborn. To me, being pro-life means valuing life at all stages – protecting unborn babies, ensuring expecting moms have access to pre and post-natal care, and supporting new families. There is so much more we can do to support a culture of life and help families as they grow, and while Governor Reynolds and the state legislature are working on these policies in Iowa, I’m committed to championing these efforts at the federal level. This includes improving access to maternal health care options. Six counties in our Congressional District are classified as maternity care deserts – counties with a lack of maternity care resources and no access to a hospital with OB care. Some women in rural areas have to drive an hour or more to see their doctor, putting their health and the health of their baby at risk. That’s why I introduced the bipartisan, bicameral Maternal and Child Health Stillbirth Prevention Act this week. This legislation expands access to maternal health care to prevent stillbirths – the unexpected loss of a baby at or after 20 weeks of pregnancy. One in four stillbirths is preventable, and this legislation will help save lives and ensure we have more healthy moms and healthy babies in Iowa. From stillbirth prevention efforts to providing resources for new parents and families, I am committed to standing up for life at every stage. Our pro-life work is just beginning! Jax had a front row seat to the legislative process – a pretty great civics lesson. We even got to meet Sully – President H.W. Bush’s service dog! Holding China Accountable Accountability, Not Appeasement The Biden Administration is sleepwalking into another decade of failed diplomacy and appeasement toward the Chinese Communist Party. I joined Mornings with Maria this week to discuss how we can end this dangerous trend of appeasement and start to hold the CCP accountable for their aggression. Watch the clip here. Protecting U.S. Farmland From Foreign Adversaries The Chinese Communist Party (CCP) isn’t buying up U.S. farmland at random – it is a deliberate effort to exert control over our food supply and have easier access to military sites. I joined a bipartisan group of my colleagues to crack down on foreign purchases of agricultural land. Our legislation will require a strict review process of all land purchases by foreign adversaries and strengthen our oversight of land purchases near sensitive sites, including all military facilities. The legislation will strengthen our oversight of foreign land purchases and prevent the CCP from buying up American farmland to protect our food supply and national security. Read more about our efforts to protect our land from Communist China and other bad actors here. Stripping WHO Funding The World Health Organization aided Communist China's COVID-19 cover-up, allowing the pandemic to spread and destroy lives and livelihoods. This week, I voted to prohibit taxpayer funds from going to the World Health Organization. We shouldn't be sending our adversaries – or the corrupt organizations that do their bidding – massive checks from U.S. taxpayers. I'll continue fighting to ensure your hard-earned taxpayers aren't going into the coffers of our enemies and are instead invested in programs that help Americans and Iowans. EATS Act Prop 12 allows radical activists in California – who don’t know the first thing about farming or raising animals – to regulate how Iowa farmers do their job. Our farmers take great care of their animals and ensure families have safe, affordable, and high-quality food on the table. I am proud to lead the Ending Agricultural Trade Suppression (EATS) Act to stand against the Prop 12 'bacon ban' and ensure farmers can continue to produce the nutritious, cheap proteins that Americans need and want. We are going to keep working to get this bill across the finish line! "Bidenomics" President Biden is trying to sell the American people on "Bidenomics." Well, Iowans aren't buying what he's selling. As we all know, Bidenomics is rampant inflation, supply chain issues, families falling behind on utility bill payments, and record fuel prices - all caused by President Biden's reckless economic agenda. While the Biden Administration continues to increase red tape and spend far more than we can afford, I'll continue working to cut taxes for working families, rein in spending, and reduce government intervention in Iowans' daily lives.
