Dear Friends,

This week, Congress returned to Washington, D.C. and I have been hard at work for you. From telephone town halls to meetings with Cabinet officials, I am committed to delivering for Illinois’ Second Congressional District.

Telephone Town Hall

Thank you to the thousands of callers who joined me for my telephone town hall on Tuesday. I was pleased to be able to update you on my work in Congress and answer your questions. I have always cherished these town halls as a vital resource to inform my decision-making and help me better serve as your representative in the House. Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research And Education Act of 2023

I joined my fellow co-chairs of the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls, Congresswoman Yvette Clarke (NY-09), and Congresswoman Bonnie Watson Coleman (NJ-12), to introduce the Stephanie Tubbs Jones Uterine Fibroid Research And Education Act of 2023. This bill would increase research funding, improve access to treatment options, and raises awareness for the millions who are impacted by uterine fibroids.

Regional Leadership Meeting with United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg

As a member of the Regional Leadership Council, I met with United States Secretary of Transportation Pete Buttigieg, to discuss the work he is doing to administer the infrastructure funds approved as part of the landmark Bipartisan Infrastructure law. Thanks to this law, billions are being invested in infrastructure projects across our state.

National Defense Authorization Act

Image

Every year Congress passes the National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA), usually with strong support from Republicans and Democrats, to update our nation's defense policies, and servicemembers are given the tools they need to keep us safe at home. Despite my efforts and the efforts of my colleagues, House Republicans have transformed the NDAA, a crucial investment in our courageous servicemen and servicewomen, into a dangerous and irresponsible political expedition. This legislation, as amended, infringes upon a woman's right to access abortion care but also discriminates against LGBTQ+ members of the military and bans books for military families. I opposed this NDAA because it does not adequately honor the sacrifices our troops make every day to protect our freedom and keep us safe. The American people deserve a bill that strengthens our security without stripping away critical rights. It is my hope that a conference committee can come together and produce a bill that is focused on our national security and not extremist ideology.
