Folks, did you catch this in the news?

The New Republic: Oklahoma Superintendent Brazenly Claims Tulsa Race Massacre Was Not About Race

Oklahoma’s state superintendent Ryan Walters, a MAGA Republican endorsed by Ted Cruz, is trying to erase history from Oklahoma schools.

During a public forum, he said that the Tulsa Race Massacre, an event where a violent white mob murdered hundreds of Black Oklahomans and displaced thousands more, was not racially motivated and that teachers should not discuss race when covering this in their classroom.

This is appalling.

Black Oklahomans deserve better than to be made a footnote in the state’s history, and our grantees are working to change that.

They’re fighting year-round to register voters, encourage civic engagement, demand justice, and hold elected officials like the superintendent accountable. This news just emphasizes why they need our support.

Please, can you rush a $10 donation right now to help Groundwork Project continue supporting local activists in Oklahoma and across our target regions to advocate for change?

If you've saved your payment information with ActBlue Express, your donation will go through immediately:

Shying away from history in such an unapologetic, outrageous way should serve as a wake-up call: We have so much more work to do in order to get bad actors like Oklahoma Superintendent Ryan Walters out of office and uplift the local activists working to bring positive change to their communities.

Thank you for taking action,

Joe
