John,
This is Addison from Equality Virginia. I wanted to reach out as it’s a very important week for myself and our community: This week is Nonbinary Awareness Week. As someone who is gender nonconforming and who feels expansive in their gender — I wanted to reach out to affirm our space in the greater LGBTQ+ community.
A few things to remember:
✨Nonbinary genders have existed for generations and throughout history!
✨There are over 1.4 million nonbinary people in North America! Hey, I'm one of them!
✨Any and all pronouns are valid when it comes to our experience! Inclusive language benefits us all!
✨Nonbinary people deserve respect and dignity, no matter how we present ourselves.
It is not an easy time to exist as a nonbinary person in the world. However, there are people, organizations, and community members who are looking out for us and our community including Equality Virginia. If you can, will you add a donation to support our work?
To my nonbinary family — I hope you’ve been able to take this week to reinvest in yourself, your understanding of self, and find kindness for yourself. To all others in our community — I hope you’ve been able to take this week to better understand nonbinary people, our experiences and all that we have to share.
We at Equality Virginia will keep showing up for nonbinary people, and we hope you will too.
With hope and power,
Addison Hunter
