Wokeness Equals Weakness – NDAA
amendments reverse Biden Extremism
Eagle Forum President Kristen A. Ullman released the following statement upon passage of the National Defense Authorization Act (H.R. 2670) this morning:

The Republican-led House of Representatives has taken the first steps in undoing the ‘wokeness’ the Biden Administration has inflicted on the United States military with the passage of H.R. 2670, the NDAA. We applaud the addition of amendments to preserve the life and health of servicemen and women and their families and eliminate divisive Critical Race Theory and so-called Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion ideologies from the military.

In the words of Billy Joel, “we didn’t start the fire.” Despite what liberal Democrats are saying, these amendments to the NDAA are necessary because President Biden and his administration are implementing policies that politicize the military and make it weaker, not stronger.

For example, the administration started the battle by violating long-standing US policy by providing travel expenses for abortions. Federal law ([link removed].) is clear: “Funds available to the Department of Defense may not be used to perform abortions” except to save the life of the mother or in cases of rape or incest. But the administration is trying to get around this by fiat, declaring that travel expenses and time off don’t violate the law that was first enacted in 1984.

In addition, the radical policy to pay for treatment for gender dysphoria with military funding was put in place by the left. Forcing military women to bunk, shower and use latrines with biological males is dangerous and degrading. Congress needs to protect females in the armed services, not give in to unscientific ‘gender ideology’ that creates not stronger soldiers but life-long medical patients.

The United States Military is the strongest on earth because of its focus on merit, not political correctness. The left’s insistence on dividing and discriminating against people because of their skin color is not just unconstitutional but erodes unit cohesion. Our soldiers must be evaluated, assigned, and promoted based on their abilities, not immutable characteristics. This is why Eagle Forum supported the amendments to rid the military of CRT and DEI programs that ignore merit and seek to racially divide our troops.

We believe wokeness equals weakness. The recruitment problems facing the military are due in part to so many radical social experimentation programs being pushed by the left. The amendments added to the NDAA reverse these radical policies put in place by the Biden Administration and will make our military and nation stronger when enacted. We encourage the Senate to include these important provisions in the final version of the legislation.
