Wait, I thought Congress already solved the climate crisis with the "historic" Inflation Reduction Act...

E&E News (7/14/23) reports: "Republicans frequently accuse Democrats of subscribing to the 'cult' of 'radical environmentalism,' while Democrats routinely slam Republicans for choosing 'polluters over people.' It’s in this political environment that 58 House members — 29 from each side — believe they can now come together to find bipartisan compromise around climate policy. It’s a lofty goal that has yet to be tested in the current Congress, and one that has been tried before, with mixed results. But Reps. Andrew Garbarino (R-N.Y.) and Chrissy Houlahan (D-Pa.) are bullish on their chances now to have success. On Friday, they will relaunch the House Climate Solutions Caucus under new leadership, seeking to revitalize the group first established in 2016 that has largely languished since 2018. 'I’d like us to be active in discussions' on climate legislation, said Garbarino, who sat with Houlahan for a joint interview with E&E News on Thursday afternoon. 'Whatever climate bill that’s going to come out and become law, it’s going to have Republicans and Democrats; I think we could actually do some really good legislation and get it passed.'"

Washington Free Beacon (7/13/23) reports: "A new Biden administration rule aimed at reducing carbon emissions would give approval authority over large U.S. defense contracts to a little-known British environmentalist group that just incorporated two weeks ago. Under the White House’s proposed rule change, a London-based group called the Science Based Targets Initiative that is funded by the Democratic Party’s main dark money network would be responsible for approving the carbon emissions reduction plans of large federal contractors. The Science Based Targets Initiative (SBTi) is a fee-based service that helps companies set emissions reduction targets in line with the Paris Climate Agreement and verifies their progress. But its foreign status and murky financial background raise questions about the Biden administration’s decision to outsource its vetting process to the group. Critics say the proposal would give SBTi enormous veto power over American defense contracts and access to potentially sensitive data about U.S. military suppliers. 'I think Americans will be upset when they realize the Biden administration is trying to put a bunch of unelected bureaucrats and a climate activist group—headquartered in London—in charge of long-term planning for our national defense contractors,' said Travis Fisher, a senior energy research fellow at the Heritage Foundation.

Remember the old Soviet front group SDS? I guess they found a new master.

Midwestern News (7/12/23) reports: "A group founded in the 1960s with communist roots is campaigning in Mecosta County for the battery plant linked to the Chinese Communist Party. Students for a Democratic Society, the radical group started at the University of Michigan by Tom Hayden and Bill Ayers, is now going door-to-door and rallying support for the Chinese-owned Gotion High-Tech plant looking to purchase about 1 sq. mile near Big Rapids. A group called 'Ferris State University Students Coalition for Jobs' and Michigan Students for a Democratic Society produced a flyer defending the CCP Gotion project. On the flyer, SDS says it seeks 'to fully support Gotion's potential developmental project as a means of creating 2,350 jobs for Michiganders,' and 'to end xenophobic and racist attacks against Chinese businesses,' interestingly acknowledging the company is, in fact, not American. Fight Back News, a far-left outlet, said SDS was going door-to-door in the community last week and was 'able to spread awareness of this issue to hundreds of members of our local community,' a student activist, Sam Skene, said."
