She didn’t know that she’d become the second woman to become a Governor and then a Senator, or that she’d have to take on campaign debt to defeat a MAGA-backed, election-denying Republican. She had no idea that as she got older, Republican extremists would ensure that she had fewer and fewer rights.

But, all of those things did happen.

Which is why my mid-term win was so critical – to our Senate majority and to our daughters’ futures. 

As you’ll remember, at the end of my campaign, pundits moved our race to a toss-up, I was getting calls from other Senators concerned that we couldn’t win and that we’d lose the majority, and the GOP was flooding the airwaves – all just months after Roe was overturned.

So, my campaign made the choice to increase our ad buys hoping that the money would come through later.

Here we are over six months later and my campaign is STILL paying those bills down. And, state after state is rolling back access to reproductive rights. That makes emails like this one extremely important. 

I’m hoping that I can count on you, John to be one of the 4 folks we need from your area to donate to this email to get those bills covered and keep a pro-choice fighter in the Senate for years to come. People like you usually give around $3, but I’d be grateful for any amount.

I’m still filled with the hope and optimism I see in that photo, but in a country suffering the consequences of our last Republican president and a conservative Supreme Court, it’s going to take all of us working together and doing our part to make those dreams a reality.
