Bonnie Ollinger and Cecelia Lyons represented the Democrats of Indian River by attending the Leadership Blue conference along with 300 other Democrats this past weekend in Miami Beach featuring keynote speaker, Bradley Whitfield.

Nikki Fried, Chair of the Florida Democratic Party, led off the weekend declaring it is a “new day” for Florida Democrats, especially with DeSantis’s inability to close the gaps in the polls against Donald Trump.

The focus of Fried’s speech throughout the weekend was that we as Florida Democrats are refocusing out attention and returning to the fundamentals of recruiting and our state candidates.

Danielle Hawk, Chair of the Florida Democratic Campaign Committee, will be recruiting strong candidates including for our School Boards and City Councils across Florida and empowering campaigns with the resources necessary to win. As Fried said, “winning local races is key to building the statewide infrastructure."

It was a positive and informative weekend but the work remains and it is up to each one of us to take up the challenge to fight for our rights and to do our share to make Florida Blue again and to make sure every one of us votes!
