"Equal Justice Under Law."

A guiding principle for this country's justice system, etched directly onto the Supreme Court.

Last week, President Trump and Attorney General Barr blatantly ignored this principle when they reversed the sentence recommendations for Roger Stone, an ally and friend of the president.

I joined with Senator Schumer in calling for an emergency hearing of the Judiciary Committee to have Attorney General Barr testify under oath about this sentencing travesty.

The attorney general is supposed to be the top law enforcement officer for all Americans. This attorney general, however, clearly feels that he is the president's attorney. He is enabling and emboldening President Trump. Together, they are undermining the independence of our judiciary and the fabric of our democracy.

This president looks to punish those who testify with the truth and instead is protecting convicted criminals such as Roger Stone. We need an attorney general who is the people's advocate not an advocate of the president. Our democracy is at stake.
