John,
What an electrifying start to #NN23! Our opening keynote was a testament to the power of progressive voices uniting for change. We heard from inspiring leaders who shared their visions for a more equitable and just world. Their words reminded us of the importance of our collective work and the impact we can make when we stand together.
From strategies to win in 2024 to conversations about protecting democracy, the keynote set the tone for the transformative discussions to come. We can't wait to see what the rest of Netroots Nation 2023 has in store!
You can watch the full keynote, plus see photos from Day 1 of Netroots Nation here.
WHAT'S ON TAP FOR FRIDAY
If you're not with us in Chicago, we'll be streaming today's keynote via Facebook Live and through our conference app (closed captioning provided):
Friday Keynote featuring TN State Rep. Justin Jones, 4 p.m. CT
Click here to watch the livestream
At every turn, the GOP is taking steps to silence those they don’t
agree with and squash progress on critical issues like reducing gun
violence, ensuring abortion access and protecting our democracy. Right
wing extremists’ continued assault on our rights and democracy helped
Democrats mobilize—and win—in the midterms, but the work isn’t over.
We must continue to organize, build power
and develop a bench of progressive leaders up and down the ballot. In
even the reddest of states, courageous, bold leaders and community
organizers are stepping up to raise their voices, inspire change and
mobilize their communities. In this keynote, TN State Rep. Justin
Jones, in conversation with Alicia Garza, will discuss his experience
standing up for democracy, disrupting the status quo and demanding
action. You'll also hear from Daily Kos founder Markos Moulitsas Zuniga,
Center for Popular Democracy’s DaMareo Cooper and Analilia Mejia and
Cephus “Uncle Bobby” Johnson.
If you've got a virtual or in-person ticket, you'll also have access to the sessions below through our conference app.

SPONSOR HIGHLIGHTS
Over recent years, we have seen an escalation of efforts to criminalize and silence protest, dissent, and critical advocacy. This shrinking of civil society space, driven by right-wing extremists and extractive corporations, poses serious threats to our democracy and efforts to address the climate crisis, as well as to advance a progressive agenda overall. Corporations are standing in the way of us speaking out for our communities by bullying activists and organizations with frivolous lawsuits meant to bully and bankrupt us into silence. Greenpeace USA has been fighting two such lawsuits for over seven years, which attempt to intimidate the larger movement. This is a fight that we can't sit out. Please join us in Salon C-5/6 on Saturday, July 15 at 2:30 p.m. CT for a panel moderated by Greenpeace USA Executive Director Ebony Twilley Martin, titled “Protecting the Right to Protest and Voice Dissent.” Send a message to Congress here.
Communications Workers of America (CWA),
an international labor union representing workers in both the public
and private sectors, is a leading voice for democracy and economic
justice. CWA members work in telecommunications, customer service,
media, airlines, health care, public service and education,
manufacturing, tech, video games, and other fields.

If we wait until disinformation and misinformation reaches our communities, it is already too late. That is why the George Washington Initiative (GWI) is taking the fight to the DisMis ecosystems. GWI is a nonpartisan nonprofit organization with three core initiatives: developing a disinformation network detection and alert tool, training organizations to combat disinformation on social media platforms, and deploying trained operatives to disrupt the flow of disinformation at its sources.
