Many of LBJ’s Great Society programs have proven over the decades to be a failure.  The reason is because the so-called “safety net” also served as a disincentive to many individuals working their way off the sustenance floor, but especially because of all the social engineering that was in the system.  Our constitution forbids a lot of direct social engineering by government, so they try indirect methods that simply prove the wisdom of the Founder’s limitations.  Now we have new examples.

Mark Tooley writes responding to a recent story about some really awful theology at a Luteran Church in Minnesota.  Tooley concludes that theology of the sort held forth by this church is going nowhere.  He is right about that – the statistics demonstrates it pretty straightforwardly.  As a denomination liberalizes, it shrinks.  But Tooley seems to think there is little damage done in the process, and with that I need to disagree.
