National Political Committee Election Forum!
This Saturday, July 15, from 1-3 PM (AZ time) Phoenix DSA is hosting 10 (TEN) of the organizers, activists, and comrades running for DSA’s National Political Committee, our organization’s highest standing leadership body!
You can RSVP AT THIS LINK!
To ensure a broad range of ideological representation, our forum participants include DSA members from around the country and represent nine of the most active and influential factions within the Democratic Socialists of America, as well as uncaucused comrades!
The participating candidates are Laura W. (Bread and Roses), Rael A. (Socialist Majority Caucus), Rashad X. (Marxist Unity Group), Jesse D. (Reform and Revolution), CS Jackson (Libertarian Socialist Caucus), Frances G. (Groundwork), Jorge R. (Emerge), Megan R. (Red Star), Luisa M. (Independent), and Austin Ray E. (Red Labor).
For those who can’t make it, the forum will be recorded and shared with a forum-recap document through our chapter-managed newsletter, RED ALL OVER. Subscribe today for updates on this event and more on leftist organizing!
In addition, we will discuss upcoming events, ongoing actions, and chapter goals for the rest of 2023 and beyond.
We hope to see everyone there! RSVP AT THIS LINK!
Really Really Free Market Tempe!
This Sunday, July 16, from 7-9 AM (AZ time) join us for a morning of mutual aid in Daley Park (1625 S College Ave, Tempe) by the basketball courts.
Since 2021, Really Really Free Market Tempe has gathered and provided fresh produce, frozen and canned foods, diapers, baby food, toys, clothes, and so much more to local residents. But this isn’t just a chance to give back. Mutual Aid is about community support - giving what you can and taking what you need. This isn’t charity. If you find something that you need at the Really, Really Free Market, then you can have it. No charge, no catch.
Please consider donating. If you are able to bring supplies but you want advice on what to bring, diapers, baby formula, and other items for parents of young children are always in high demand.
Secondhand items are accepted, but be conscious that not everything will be taken, and our Mutual Aid Committee Chair has to store all the remaining items.
In addition, Phoenix DSA has recently dedicated chapter funds to support RRFM on a monthly basis, but we still need your help. If you are able please make a donation to Phoenix DSA’s mutual aid fund.
Staying Strike Ready!
Teamster negotiations with UPS have fallen apart after UPS failed to offer a reasonable contract! Starbucks Workers United is rallying workers for action around the country! Unite Here is leading a wave of hotel strikes through the southwest United States!
And Phoenix DSA is ready!
For the last two months, we have been attending strikes, hosting events, and rallying comrades for labor action all around Arizona! Today, with organized labor sweeping the nation and massive deadlines in the near future, these efforts are more valuable than ever.
In order to show support for workers at risk of illegal retaliation without broadcasting action details, we have initiated a new program called STRIKE FORCE.
In addition to brief reminders about chapter endorsed strike actions and forward facing labor organizing, Phoenix DSA’s Strike Force will receive to-the-minute text updates on strike actions and labor rallies that we aren’t able to promote through more accessible chapter channels such as social media or slack.
If you are interested in joining Strike Force, complete the short form LINKED HERE. Then just get ready for our rush to the picket line!
If you’re interested in supporting our labor work but cannot commit to attending strike actions or joining the Strike Force, please make a donation to Phoenix DSA’s Strike Fund. Your contributions will go toward building labor power and supporting striking workers in Arizona.
That’s all for now! But there is much more in the works. Please check our calendar for regular event updates. If you want to read more from Phoenix DSA, you can read our newsletter: RED ALL OVER
Organizing for socialist policies in a "purple" state like Arizona can be exhausting. Burnout is real, and isolation only makes it worse. So if you're unionizing your workplace, writing ballot initiatives, preparing to run for office, supporting mutual aid efforts, or fighting for a socialist future, we have space for you. You are not alone!
If you have questions, comments, or ideas, please reach out to us at [email protected]. We're happy to help neighbors in need, and we're always excited to meet new comrades!
If you aren't a member, but you want to get involved, then JOIN THE DSA TODAY! Let us know that it's official by forwarding your welcome email to [email protected] once it arrives. We look forward to working together!
If you want to get involved but you’re not sure where to start, check out our calendar or send us an email or a DM. Be sure to check back regularly! We have new events in the works.
Finally, our work isn’t possible without your support. Local DSA chapters receive a small portion of member dues from DSA national, but the majority of our support comes through donations from members and allies. If you are able, please make a donation to support the Phoenix DSA.
In the meantime, have a great week and solidarity forever!
