This is Speaker of the House Kevin McCarthy. I wanted to take a few minutes today to share something personal with you, but it’s going to take a bit of explaining. If you get to the end and still don’t understand my commitment to America, then I’m just appreciative that you took the time to read this in its entirety. I wanted to take some time to discuss my background so you understand where I’m coming from when I’m fighting for the American people. | | My dad and I, circa 1966. | My siblings, Shelly and Mark, and I, circa 1968. | I come from a working-class background. My grandparents were immigrants. My mom, Roberta, was a homemaker. My dad, Owen, was an assistant city fire chief. They instilled a strong work ethic in me that I carry with me every day. | Working the counter at Kevin O's Deli & McCarthy's Yogurt. (Sorry for the image quality, but at least you’ll know it’s authentic!) | When I was 19, I ran my first business, Kevin O’s Deli, selling sandwiches out of the back of my uncle's yogurt shop. Eventually, I sold the deli to pay my way through college. It taught me a lot about personal responsibility, and I quickly learned how overregulation by the government affects small businesses. | Speaking with a farmer on the campaign trail in 2010. | After Kevin O’s Deli and my experience with government overreach, I decided it was time to make a change. I knew public service would be a positive way for me to channel my frustration as a former small business owner, while also helping others in similar situations. Little did I know that working in the California State Assembly would pave the way to holding one of the most prestigious roles in our country: Speaker of the House of Representatives. | Celebrating Republicans’ success in taking back the House in 2022 | |
If you’ve read this through to the end, thank you so much for your time. I hope you understand why our commitment to America is so important. I’m so grateful to have your support. Thank you, |
