On Tuesday 23rd July, the Conservative Party elected Boris Johnson as our leader and Prime Minister winning the leadership race with 92,153 votes. A huge congratulations to the new Prime Minister who has done a great job this week settling into the new role, announcing new plans, and getting to work uniting our country. It has been my absolute pleasure and a huge privilege to serve under Theresa May’s premiership where I have experienced many amazing opportunities and I have thoroughly enjoyed working alongside so many fantastic and hardworking colleagues.

The Prime Minster set out the plan to get the country back on the road to a brighter future:


1. Getting Brexit done by 31st October (outlook-data-detector://10) , with a great new deal for Britain.

2. Making sure Britain is prepared for a no deal, as the best way to get a great new deal.

3. Making sure people start seeing the £20 billion in new NHS funding in their GP surgeries and local hospitals.

4. Hiring 20,000 new police officers and giving them the powers to keep our streets safe.

5. Properly funding our schools so that every child gets more guaranteed minimum funding, regardless of where they live.

6. Delivering a strong economy to fund the public services we all rely on.

Meet the Cabinet

This week, the Prime Minister unveiled his Cabinet for Modern Britain, appointing Ministers who will get Brexit done by 31st October (http://) and ensure our NHS, schools and police get the attention they deserve. Congratulations to all of my Westminster colleagues for so many well deserved appointments - the hard work continues!
Our Plan
DELIVER BREXIT 🇬🇧

We can get the best deal for Britain that keeps our economy strong, moves the country beyond Brexit, brings the change that people voted for in the Referendum, and gets our country back on the path to a brighter future. I support getting Brexit done by 31st October, with a great new deal for Britain and making sure Britain is prepared for a no deal, as the best way to get a great new deal.
I have always believed that keeping No Deal on the table is key to achieving Brexit. I am therefore thrilled to see that the Chancellor has announced £2.1 billion to turbocharge preparations for a no deal Brexit to ensure we are ready to leave on 31st October. £1.1 billion is being provided to departments and the devolved administrations immediately and a further £1 billion has been made available, should it be needed.
SCHOOL FUNDING 🏫

I have been lucky enough to have the opportunity to visit our local schools, meet so many hardworking staff members and chat to students about issues that are important to them. Therefore I welcome the pledge for proper funding for our schools so that every child gets more guaranteed minimum funding, regardless of where they live.
PUBLIC SERVICES ⛑

I have had the huge pleasure of meeting with our teachers and police, members of the armed forces and NHS workers and witnessed first hand the amazing services that they provide to our community. I'm thrilled to see that our government aim to deliver a strong economy to fund the public services we all rely on.
POLICING 🚨

Effective policing is vital across our area and our wider communities and it is key that we continue recruiting, fill crucial capability gaps, meet genuine pressures, drive through efficiency programmes, and improve their effectiveness by preventing crime and delivering better outcomes for victims of crime. I therefore welcome plan to hire 20,000 new police officers, giving them the powers to keep our streets safe and am pleased to see the first meeting of the National Policing Board underway this week, marking the start of a new partnership between police and the Government.

VETERAN SUPPORT 🇬🇧

Our Prime Minster has created a new Office for Veterans' Affairs to provide lifelong support to military personnel. Headed up by Oliver Dowden MP and Johnny Mercer MP, it will deliver the care our veterans deserve - from mental and physical health to education & employment.
NHS FUNDING 🏥

As Eastleigh's MP, I have met with countless constituents who rely on NHS services on a daily basis and I know how essential it is to protect our services and our hard-working NHS workers. That's why I'm backing plans to make sure people start seeing the £20 billion in new NHS funding in their GP surgeries and local hospitals.

I am thrilled to end this update by announcing my new role in Government as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Employment at the Department of Work and Pensions. I am delighted with the vote of confidence to move to a challenging but vital and uplifting department and I am looking forward to delivering alongside a fantastic Ministerial Team! I’m already looking forward to attending the G20 on behalf of HMG at the end of August to discuss current and future job markets.
