Advocate for Palestine in Congress

Dear Email,

I’m writing to you today to share the importance of our 2023 Palestine Advocacy Day. At our Advocacy Day, you will have an incredible opportunity to travel to Washington D.C. and directly engage with your Members of Congress, shed light on the importance of Palestinian human rights, and work towards dismantling the oppressive systems that continue to hinder their freedom and dignity.

Advocating for Palestinian Rights in Congress is Important

Lobbying on the hill is crucial for effecting change. Congress plays a vital role in shaping policies that impact millions of Palestinians. During our advocacy efforts, we can influence their decision-making process, affect their way of thinking, and bypass narratives that make them disregard the humanity of Palestinians.

This is why we at AJP Action are keen to provide passionate advocates like you with a unique platform to raise our voices, share our concerns, and engage with our elected representatives. This event allows you to meet with your Members of Congress and their staff to effectively communicate the importance of upholding Palestinian human rights and undo the laws and policies contributing to their oppression.

You might tell me, and many have before, that these efforts are wasteful and that the U.S. will always support Israel. But while the impact of our change may feel slow, it’s working!

For the first time ever, we have several members of Congress recognizing Israel as an apartheid state, speaking out on its atrocities, introducing legislation supporting Palestinian human rights and demanding justice for them, and criticizing Israel’s violations publicly. This shift in the U.S. narrative on Israel would not have been possible without the work of advocates that came before us and the work that continues to happen now.

Every year Congress passes $3.8 billion in funding for Israel. This funding comes with no strings attached and is used to purchase guns, tanks, airplanes, and more to ethnically cleanse and kill Palestinians while entrapping more than 1 million Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

By meeting with your Members of Congress and their offices, you can help convince Congress to end its support for Israel’s occupation and oppression of Palestinians. You can do so by advocating for H.R.3103, the Defending the Human Rights of Palestinian Children and Families Living Under Israeli Military Occupation Act, a bill that would restrict aid to Israel from being used to destroy homes, detain children, and abuse Palestinians. You will also be able to advocate for H.Res.388, Congresswoman Tlaib’s Resolution recognizing that the Nakba is ongoing and the plight of Palestinian refugees.

There will be other legislative efforts that you can support as we continue to advocate in Congress to hold Israel accountable.

Advocates from across the nation during Palestine Advocacy Day 2019

Not experienced in Hill advocacy? No worries! We will provide you with training that includes comprehensive courses on legislative advocacy, understanding the U.S. political process, speaking to elected officials, and making impactful and specific policy requests to your Member of Congress.

Stay tuned for more updates on our advocacy days in October. Together, we can drive real change.

Be sure to register ASAP and share with your friends and family.

In solidarity,

Dr. Osama Abu Irshaid
