Our Banned Bookmobile has a problem.

Dear MoveOn member,

Our Banned Bookmobile has a problem.

No, not a flat tire. No, we didn't run out of gas. And no, it hasn't been ignored by the national press. In fact, The Washington Post just said of our bus, "[I]f book burners are moving fast, defenders of our literary freedom are moving faster."1

No, none of that is our problem. Our problem is simply that we expect to run out of books so fast that many families could be turned away. And those families that are lucky enough to get anything will be able to take only one book.

So let us cut to the chase. We want to buy more books. A LOT more books, and we need your help.

Below is the link to give $10 a month. Your monthly gift will help us restock the Bookmobile with banned books and help MoveOn continue fighting over the long haul against this and other authoritarian policies of the MAGA Republican Party to strip us of our rights. If you are ready to start a $10 monthly gift, click below. If you'd like more details, keep reading.

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

When we say we need your help right away, we aren't kidding.

Our bus tour is is now in full force, and as it powers its way through the Midwest, from Chicago to Milwaukee to Cleveland to Pittsburgh, and then due south through Virginia, South Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, and finally into Ron DeSantis's home state of Florida, the one thing we can't do is run out of books.

Because, even before the official start of the tour, the books were already flying off the shelves. At our debut event, we ran out of books in 10 minutes! 10 MINUTES!!!

As you know, many of the books we are giving away address issues of race, gender, sexuality, slavery, the Holocaust, and immigration—issues that are important for all of us to learn about and which are connected to many of the communities DeSantis and MAGA Republicans are attacking relentlessly. The tour will highlight the connection between banning these books and the policies MAGA Republicans are imposing, while shaming them for trying to censor history.

But, perhaps most importantly, our tour will ensure these banned books are read. Banned books like "The 1619 Project: Born on the Water," "The Bluest Eye" "Gender Queer: A Memoir," "The Hill We Climb," and "Maus.”

But to ensure that these banned books are actually read, we need the actual books. Lots and lots and lots of them.

That is why we need you to make a donation today. Otherwise, hundreds of families could be turned away at every stop, and those families that are lucky enough to get a book will be able to take only one.

John, will you join the thousands of MoveOn members who are chipping in to power the Banned Bookmobile by starting a $10 monthly donation so we can buy more books and so we can continue fighting against this and other authoritarian policies of the MAGA Republican Party for as long as it takes?

Yes, I'll chip in monthly.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.

Thanks for all you do.

Want to support MoveOn's work? Book bans have skyrocketed thanks to right-wing state laws which have forced teachers to remove books from their classrooms. In response, MoveOn is launching a "Banned Bookmobile," filling it with books that the far right has banned, and driving it around to hand out those books, for free, in highly trafficked areas that will attract media attention. To keep the Banned Bookmobile up and running into 2024, we need your help.

Will you start a monthly gift to power our critical work?

Yes, I'll chip in $10 a month.

No, I'm sorry, I can't make a monthly donation.
