🕫 Breaking news: the FDA just sided with science and approved the first ever over-the-counter birth control pill!!

Opill will be the first contraceptive medication available without a prescription. This is a huge victory for reproductive justice.

You made this happen. You showed up time and time again, raising your voices across the country to convince those in power that young people can and should be trusted to make your own healthcare decisions. And today, all that hard work has paid off with the FDA’s approval of an over-the-counter birth control pill for the first time in the United States for all people, without age restrictions.

URGE’s #FreethePill Fest has given young, marginalized folks the opportunity to envision a world of their making. Over the past three years, URGE has elevated the work of more than 50 young advocates, with nearly 100 pieces of content across our socials. Catch up on the campaign and tag us in your stories.

This is the result of 20 years of research and advocacy. Opill is safe and effective.
Opill will be available in pharmacies in January 2024, depending on manufacturers.
Our work isn’t done. We must continue to advocate for expanded contraceptive access—including availability, affordability, and protection from the ideological exemptions of pharmacists and store owners.
