Below are a few updates and changes for the 2023-2024 hunting seasons. As a hunter it is your responsibility to view "all" of Maine's hunting laws.
*Youth Deer Hunt: *Youth Deer Hunting Day has been extended to two days, Friday, October 20-Saturday, October 21, 2023. Learn more about youth hunting days [ [link removed] ].
*Turkey registration: *All turkeys harvested in the spring and fall hunting seasons must be registered in-person at a registration station or self-registered online. Learn more about tagging, transportation, and registration laws [ [link removed] ].
*Dog training season update for portions of Washington and Hancock counties: *Residents may now train up to six dogs on bear from July 1 - August 25, 2023 in portions of Washington and Hancock counties that are situated south of Route 9, in this region landowner permission is required to train dogs on land used for wild blueberry production (this is a new law that will remain in effect through the 2024 training season). Prior to this law change, portions of Washington and Hancock counties that are situated south of Route 9 were closed to dog training on bear. *Gray and red squirrel dog training season:* From July 1 through the following March 31, including Sundays, dogs may now be trained on gray and red squirrels. Learn more about hunting with dogs and dog training. [ [link removed] ]
