Rupert Murdoch set to bail on Ron DeSantis, reportedly eyeing new puppet to fight Trump
The Fox News founder has reportedly soured on the real-life Disney villain's floundering presidential campaign and has privately told people his new campaign crush is Virginia Gov. Greg Youngkin. Different right-wing fearmonger, same book-banning, queer-shaming, race-baiting bullshit. [RETWEET THAT!]

VIDEO OF THE DAY: Fox News and Tucker Carlson hit with bombshell new legal blow
Republican attempts to create a counter narrative of the January 6 insurrection that somehow exonerates them centered on a Trump supporter named Ray Epps, who they insist — with no proof — was really a "deep state" operative who directed otherwise peaceful protesters to attack the Capitol. Fox in general, and Tucker in particular, amplified the lies, which led to death threats on Epps and ruined his life. Now Epps is suing in the same court which oversaw Fox's record $787 million settlement with Dominion Voting Machines for spreading 2020 election lies.

Racist Buffalo mass shooter was radicalized online, new lawsuit alleges
Survivors and families of murdered Tops Supermarket victims have filed a new civil lawsuit against several social media platforms, gun sellers, and the shooter's parents, accusing all of bearing responsibility for the abhorrent tragedy that resulted in the death of 10 African Americans at the hands of the AR-15-wielding white nationalist.

Matt Gaetz humiliated by FBI Director Wray in fiery hearing
The MAGA blowhard thought he had the FBI director on the ropes during the GOP's sham "weaponization of government" hearings, but Chris Wray landed a real-time clap-back for the ages, stinging Gaetz during the nationally televised dog and pony show.

Trump melts down on social media after DOJ decision in E. Jean Carroll case
The Department of Justice made it clear earlier this week that the disgraced ex-president's defamation of Carroll was obviously not committed in his capacity as then-commander in chief, and so he doesn't qualify for immunity from the suit. Trump handled the legal setback with his usual professionalism and restraint, issuing a measured statement laying out his team's next steps in the ongoing matter... Nah! We're just kidding. The 77-year-old sex pest threw a flailing, incoherent, CAPS LOCK'd temper tantrum on Truth Social lambasting all the very bad people doing so many very bad things to make him look the very most bad!

Former executives apologize for creating "disinformation machine" at Fox News
Former Rupert Murdoch underlings Ken Solomon, Bill Reyner, and Preston Padden published a blogpost that went viral Wednesday, stating, “In our opinion, the Fox News Channel has had many negative impacts on our society.” They continued, with what we can only assume were straight faces, “we never envisioned, and would not knowingly have enabled, the disinformation machine" that Fox News has so clearly become. Color us unconvinced.
DeSantis robs Floridians of $377 million in federal energy investments
Disingenuous Republicans from coast to coast have been lining up to take credit for billions of dollars in federal funding President Biden's wildly popular infrastructure and stimulus bills have allocated for their districts and states — even though they ALL voted against them! But not Ron DeSantis. The book-banning governor is not only not taking the credit — he’s also not taking the money! This way he can boast about owning the libs, or fiscal conservatism, or freedom, or some other bumper sticker rationale that supposedly makes for a good Republican sound byte, and all for the low, low price of denying the people of his state access to multiple game-changing federal programs.
Hollywood actors set to join writers and strike after contract negotiations fail
Thousands of screen performers represented by the Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists are on course for strike action after the guild and the industry’s leading studios could not agree on a new contract. SAG-AFTRA is seeking higher compensation and safeguards around the use of artificial intelligence in the creative arts. This has a familiar ring to it, doesn't it?

Today’s Action: Support the Writers Guild of America strike!
The writers of all our favorite TV and streaming shows have been on strike for more than two months, and Hollywood executives just responded by saying the quiet part out loud. An unnamed studio executive actually told Deadline “the endgame is to allow things to drag on until union members start losing their apartments and losing their houses.” It’s beyond abhorrent and distinctly on-brand.
While the advent of streaming has unleashed a torrent of wonderful, high-quality entertainment, it has proven financially calamitous for writers, who have found themselves working for less and less pay year after year. Adjusted for inflation, writer pay has dropped 14% over the past five years! On top of that, their jobs (and the future quality of our favorite shows) are being threatened by the looming specter of AI-generated content and the hunger of big corporations to cut every single job they possibly can to maximize profits.
The companies' behavior has created a gig economy inside a union work force, and their immovable stance in this negotiation has betrayed a commitment to further devaluing the profession of writing, the Writers Guild of America said in a statement.
CEO compensation last year averaged roughly $32 million at the industry’s 12 major media companies. It's obvious these juggernauts can afford to properly compensate their writers. If they won't, then writers should continue to strike until they receive a fair contract.
Support striking WGA writers by donating your time and/or money! You can write letters of support, donate to the Snacklist (which delivers food and coffee to striking writers), share their demands online using the WGA social media toolkit (#WGAstrong, #WGAstrike), or — if you’re in LA or New York City — join them on the frontlines!
