Just hours after Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s testimony on Tuesday, which was laden with repeated warnings about the ongoing threat Russia and other foreign entities present for our elections, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell BLOCKED a set of bills that are designed to secure our elections from foreign interference.
These bills are commonsense measures to secure our elections from foreign interference and include, among other things, items like:
- Requiring campaigns to report to federal authorities any attempts by foreign entities to interfere in US elections
- Keeping voting machines disconnected from the internet to prevent hacking
- Requiring the use of paper ballots to ensure that there is an auditable paper trail
- Ensuring that states have secured and updated voting equipment – replacing outdated and potentially vulnerable devices
Yet despite what is a reasonable, bipartisan effort to secure our elections, Mitch McConnell labeled the bills as “partisan legislation” that was designed to give Democrats “political benefit.”
WHAT?!?
Rather than take the necessary steps to secure our elections from foreign interference, Mitch McConnell would rather WELCOME the continued ability of the Kremlin and other foreign adversaries to meddle in our elections as long as it gives Republicans an advantage in winning elections!
We must fight back against this egregious assault on our democracy – sign the petition!>>
Whether or not Republicans begin to take seriously the real and growing threat that foreign interference is having on our democracy, we must continue holding them accountable for their inaction and DEMAND that they DO THEIR JOBS and take steps to secure our elections.
