Hi friend,

This week the Bank of England said that 10% of the entire UK population is experiencing over in-debtedness. One in ten of us.

It’s not that surprising considering what we’ve all been through in the last three years. Pandemic, cost of living, energy price hikes. And what are the politicians doing about it?

Very little.

The best way to address this debt crisis is to tackle it head on. By organising together, daring to dream of a better world and speaking our truths, we can not only make those in power listen, we can make them act.

Next year the UK we will likely see a general election, we must make sure that whoever is elected takes action to bring down the debt.

We want to know what you want to see changed, debt cancellation, action on energy bills or all of the above? Over the next few months, we’ll be building our Together Against Debt – People’s Manifesto, before delivering it directly to politicians.

We know the day to day impact debt is having on people’s lives:
“It’s give with the one hand and take with the other. I might get a few quid off my energy bill but that’s swallowed up by food prices going through the roof. I still don’t have peace of mind and I am already dreading winter when my energy bills will go up again." - Junnie Braithwaite

It’s time politicians knew it too.

You can get involved by filling in our short survey or, if you are worried about debt yourself, coming to our event on the 2 September.

Tell us what you think

The build-up of unpayable debt is weighing down our communities, and will act as a weight on the economy for years to come unless the government recognises the severity of the personal debt crisis and takes action. Together, we can make them.

Nothing about us without us - Add your voice

In solidarity,

Eva, Joe, Zak and all the team at Debt Justice
