Access COVID-19 treatment over the phone

After finding out he tested positive for COVID-19, Cristobal wants help accessing treatment, but he doesn't have a reliable internet connection or use mobile apps. He also isn't confident talking to medical professionals in English.

Luckily, Cristobal finds out he can call 1-844-609-2415 to access the Minnesota Department of Health's free COVID-19 Telehealth Test-to-Treat program. He can speak to a provider over the phone and in his own language.

Two types of tests

Did you know there are two types of tests available for the virus that causes COVID-19?

Molecular test (for example, a NAAT test, such as a PCR)

  • The most accurate test.
  • You need only one test. You do not need to repeat the test.
  • This is the usual test given in a clinic or hospital.
  • Results may take a couple of days because these tests must be sent to a laboratory.

Antigen test

  • Positive results are very accurate and reliable. However, in general, antigen tests are less likely to detect the virus than PCR tests, especially when you don?t have symptoms.
  • If the test is positive, you do not need to test again.
  • To be confident you do not have COVID-19, the CDC and FDA currently recommend two negative antigen tests for people with symptoms or three antigen tests for those without symptoms, performed 48 hours apart. A single PCR test can also be used to confirm an antigen test result. Visit COVID-19 Testing: What You Need to Know for the CDC and FDA antigen testing recommendations.

COVID-19 stories of community outreach and partnership?

COVID-19 Stories of Community Outreach and Partnership?highlight the efforts of our staff in collaboration with community partners during the COVID-19 response. Some stories provide insight into how this work is done, others discuss what challenges our teams face, but all of them recognize how COVID-19 has pushed MDH to try new strategies so we can fulfill our mission of protecting, maintaining, and improving the health of all Minnesotans.

Co-creating messaging for culturally rooted outreach

As the first South African black president Nelson Mandela once said: "If you talk to a man in a language he understands? and in his language, that [message] goes to his heart." Few things impact a community as powerfully as receiving a message in a language and format its members can understand, relate to, and remember. Communicating in ways that are respectful and culturally appropriate for different ethnic communities addresses myths and misconceptions around health issues.

Recognizing the importance of sharing accurate information during the COVID-19 pandemic, the Minnesota Department of Health partnered with dozens of local diverse media and culturally rooted organizations - including Bhutanese Community Organization Minnesota (BCOM) and Somali TV of Minnesota - to translate, package, and disseminate culturally and linguistically relevant and appropriate COVID-19 messaging for their communities.

COVID-19 vaccine for children and teens

smiling children

Did you know that kids can get their COVID-19 vaccine along with other recommended shots on the same day? There is no need to wait to give the COVID-19 vaccine if your child is due for other vaccines at the same visit.

Getting vaccinated helps keep children safe and healthy! The COVID-19 vaccine is very effective at preventing hospitalizations, intensive care stays, and death in children and teens. COVID-19 can be severe for children and adolescents, even children who do not have underlying health conditions, and we can?t predict who would get very sick. It is possible children or teens could still get COVID-19 after being vaccinated, but it?s very unlikely they would get very sick from COVID-19. Learn more at About COVID-19.

Now is a good time to talk to your child?s health care provider about any vaccines your child is recommended to get, including COVID-19 vaccine, so they are ready for school in the fall.
