Hi everyone,
Recently, Maura released a proposal to more than double our wind energy capacity, aiming to fulfill 25% of our state’s energy demand. It’s the biggest proposal like it in New England’s history.
Then, she announced the launch of the Massachusetts Community Climate Bank — the nation’s first green bank dedicated to affordable housing, which will help maximize investment in the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions from the building sector.
With all that she’s doing, we wanted to write a quick note about climate change.
There have been few challenges as big as the climate crisis facing us. But that’s exactly why we can’t afford to just focus on the problems it represents. Maura said something that we think is really important — climate change represents our greatest risk, but also our greatest opportunity.
Globally, our environment is transforming in ways that are deeply concerning. Extreme weather is becoming more common and more devastating, putting our people, our economy, and our society in danger.
But in America, our greatest hours have never been driven by fear. Our most inspiring successes have come when we’ve faced a towering challenge and been brave enough to ask what might lie on the other side.
Over the coming years, we need to strengthen our infrastructure and prepare our communities for the threat of climate change. But we’re not just going to prepare, we’re going to lead.
That’s why Maura wants Massachusetts to be the global capital of climate innovation.
She wants to achieve 100% clean electricity supply by 2030, while making Massachusetts the best place in America to build a company that solves environmental challenges. As our economy grows, our workers will win, with these investments creating thousands of good paying jobs. And Maura will support the unions and workers who will fill those jobs.
It means improving our energy infrastructure, building a grid focused on putting consumers first and transportation systems that will support our clean economic growth. It also means protecting our natural resources so that future generations can enjoy the same beautiful state that we do.
Climate change represents one of the greatest dangers our state has ever faced, but Maura also believes it represents one of our greatest opportunities as well.
We face big obstacles, but in Massachusetts we have a governor willing to stand up for our future.
Under Maura, Massachusetts will lead the world on climate. That’s why we’re standing with her.
Thanks for standing with her too.
