The 2024 election is already underway, and so-called “soft money” – funds raised in circumstances where federal campaign finance laws don’t apply – is already playing a major role in the race for the White House.  
 
Federal contribution limits, source prohibitions and other federal campaign finance rules and regulations limit opportunities for corruption in our campaign finance system and protect against a “pay-to-play” style of politics that erode public trust in our elections. When soft money makes its way into our federal elections, it can undermine these crucial protections, to the detriment of voters. 
 
With candidates increasingly looking for ways to inject massive amounts of soft money into their campaigns, we are gathering a group of experts to examine why and how this is happening and what can be done to address it.

Moderated by Campaign Legal Center Senior Researcher and Investigator Sophia Gonsalves-Brown, our panel will feature CLC’s Senior Director for Campaign Finance Erin Chlopak and Director for Federal Campaign Finance Reform Saurav Ghosh, alongside OpenSecrets Editorial and Investigations Manager Anna Massoglia.

On July 27, Campaign Legal Center will host a conversation examining recent efforts to encourage and implement an ethics structure at the Supreme Court and discuss what forms such a structure may take.
