From north to south, CFT locals win healthcare for part-time faculty
Following our historic victory last year securing $200 million dollars annually for part-time healthcare, unions at twelve community college districts represented by CFT have settled agreements with their districts to win this critical benefit, over 60% of part-time faculty represented by the union.

Following healthcare victory, CFT pursuing new legislative agenda in Sacramento
Following up on our major healthcare victory last year, this year CFT’s agenda in the State Capitol includes increasing opportunities for repeatability and pay parity.
At the top of this year’s agenda is AB 811 (Fong), which seeks to reverse the decline in student enrollment and bring back needed part-time jobs by making it possible for students who have successfully passed a credit course to retake it again up to three times.

Speaking truth to power: part-time advocacy at CFT Lobby Day
Progress on part-time issues is not something accomplished only through local organizing and negotiating, but also through direct part-time member legislative advocacy. This advocacy was put into motion when part-time faculty joined dozens of fellow educators and classified professionals at CFT’s April 26 Lobby Day in Sacramento.
CFT task force to end the two-tier system in the community colleges convenes
As called for by a CFT State Council resolution last year, the CFT recently convened a new task force to end the two-tier system in community colleges.
Composed of a strong, committed and balanced lineup of CFT part-time and full-time faculty, local union officers, and activists at every possible level of union leadership and experience, the task force convened starting in Spring 2023.
