Friend, several of Governor Ron DeSantis’ anti-immigrant laws have now gone into effect in Florida, many of which will impact immigrants’ access to health care. One of these bills, SB 1718, requires Florida’s hospitals that accept Medicaid to ask patients if they are undocumented before they can be admitted — a policy they designed specifically to make sure thousands of Florida immigrants will not get the care they need.

Unfortunately, this isn’t some unforeseen outcome: instilling fear in our communities is this law’s intended purpose.

This bill is proof of the growing pattern of politicians across the country who are deliberately targeting immigrants with policies that strip away our rights and prioritize politics over the people they serve.

That's one of the many reasons why we at NILC are working to advance health care for all. We are putting our time and resources into fighting in the courts and in Congress to strengthen health care access and supporting local and state organizations fighting back against laws like those promoted by DeSantis.

This is where you come in, team. Will you help sustain our work fighting for health care for all with a donation today? Anything you can give will go a long way toward building a country where everyone has access to the care they need to thrive.

Health care is a right, not a privilege. With your support, we can make sure our laws and policies reflect that sentiment.
