📜 State Budget Finalized: NPH Responds

CA capitol building

Recently, the 2023-24 state budget was finalized and NPH has responded with our analysis.

🗝️ Our Key Takeaway The budget demonstrates that state leadership recognizes the need for progress and are working with our communities to lead the nation in just housing and homelessness solutions. At the same time, we are disappointed that the budget allocations fall short of the deep investment we need to truly meet the annual affordable housing goals our agencies have set for the state.

🌄 Looking Ahead NPH will continue to work diligently with our partners and allies to make the case for affordable housing because all our neighbors deserve a decent place to live. In particular, the 2024 ballot will be a timely opportunity to support long-term housing investments.

🏫 Go Deeper: State Budget Training Now that the budget has been finalized, where do housing advocates go from here? Join us virtually on Thursday, August 10 from 11:00AM-12:30PM PT for State Budget Round-Up — Final State Budget Agreement and Assessment for Future Fiscal Years as we examine the statewide ramifications of the budget and how we expect it to impact Bay Area affordable housing and homelessness priorities.

Registration deadline: Monday, August 7 at 5PM PT

👉 Upcoming ELPN Training! Join ELPN virtually for The Challenges of Leasing Up Higher Income Units and How Projects Have Overcome Them, happening Wednesday, August 2 from 12-1PM PT. With the advent of income averaging for Low Income Housing Tax Credit projects and new funding sources like CalHFA’s Mixed Income Program, more affordable housing projects are including units with income restrictions set above the previous standard of 60% of Area Median Income. These higher-income units present unique challenges to leasing up properties and maintaining targeted occupancy rates. Join us as leasing, development, and marketing staff discuss how these challenges have manifested, how they’ve planned for them, and what they’ve done to get units leased.
