Supreme Court rules against giving state legislatures unchecked control over federal elections - NBC News
|
John,
The Supreme Court (somewhat surprisingly) handed down a ruling that is a big victory for democracy and the integrity of our elections.
In a recent case from North Carolina, the Supreme Court rejected the fringe “independent state legislature” theory, which would have made partisan state legislatures unaccountable to state courts. Political actors could have imposed the harshest restrictions on voting without meaningful oversight by the justice system. It would have meant chaos. We avoided a serious crisis
But our work is far from over. Efforts to make voting unnecessarily harder are still rampant, and it's up to us to stand strong and push back.
I am fighting every day to ensure our democracy remains intact and I need your help. Your support is essential in our ongoing efforts to defend democracy, protect voting rights, and fight against those who seek to undermine the integrity of our elections. Will you chip in $5 or more this week to help us get our message out?
