The E-Scooter Pilot Program Is Dead - but It Isn't a Victory Until We Have Real Solutions

This week, as the PA Senate decided not to take up legislation that would extend and expand shared E-Scooter programs in Pennsylvania, they have effectively stopped the SPIN scooter pilot program here in Pittsburgh. Residents throughout Pittsburgh who are disabled, elderly, have real mobility needs, and are in search of real mobility solutions have long raised concerns about scooters and their prioritization in the City's transportation policy and the unreliable, untransparent data around safety and environmental impact that the company was reporting to the City. It is good that the PA Senate heard these concerns, however, the end of this Scooter pilot is not a victory. The issues that we have uplifted throughout our campaign have not been won and we will continue organizing toward these goals because they are more pressing than ever.

PPT Members Rally in Harrisburg for Expanded Transit Funding Options

On the morning of June 20th,, an enthusiastic crowd of State Legislators, Transit Agency Representatives, Transit Worker Union Leaders, and Transit Advocates led by Representative Joe Hohenstein and Representative Sara Innamorato, gathered on the steps of the State Capitol for a press conference to promote Hohenstein’s new House Bill HB 1307 that would allow the SEPTA region, Allegheny County, and Lancaster County the option to raise local transit funding to supplement existing state funding for transit.

PPT joins transit advocates statewide to say that PA’s Budget surplus should increase access for millions of Pennsylvanians

Excerpt from the letter sent by Transit Forward Philadelphia, Pittsburghers for Public Transit, Clean Air Council, Philly Transit Riders Union, Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadephia, POWER Interfaith, 5th Square, and Mobilify to Governor Josh Shapiro and leaders in the PA House and Senate:

"We are writing to ask Pennsylvania lawmakers to support additional operating assistance in the Commonwealth budget for public transportation. Transit systems across the Commonwealth are advocating for a 1.8% increase in the current allocation of Pennsylvania sales taxes to support operators, and avoid service cuts, fare increases, and job cuts. Public transit runs in all of Pennsylvania’s 67 counties – moving millions of riders each day, employing thousands of workers, and bolstering urban and rural economies throughout the Commonwealth."
