I grew up in NY-03 in the wake of 9/11, and at the time it was very easy to have your politics governed by fear. But I had the chance to intern for my assemblywoman, Michelle Schimel, who was ahead of her time when it came to fighting for issues like gun safety. It was then that I learned what it was like to fight for something.

Little did I know that gun safety would become a very personal issue for me. I was terrified when one of my sisters went through a lockdown when a gunman entered her campus. And later, in 2020, I was devastated when I lost a good friend to gun violence.

This issue is not abstract to me. I am 29 years old, and the issues and fears young people face across the country today are the issues I have been facing as well.

I have watched politicians do nothing while my peers lose their lives to gun violence in and outside of school. And in recent years I have come to see personally just how punishing the increasing cost of living is for the next generation just starting their careers.

I am running to defeat George Santos not just because we need to put an end to the MAGA Madness, but also because the next generation can bring fresh perspectives and more effective leadership for everyone in Congress.

But I cannot do this alone. As someone who spends a third of my paycheck (and sometimes more) on housing, I am definitely the only person in this race who cannot use personal wealth to fund their campaign.

That makes grassroots contributions all the more important. When hundreds of supporters chip in $5 or $15, it has just as great an impact as one max-out donation.
