We’ve all seen how out-of-control prescription drug prices can hurt working families and prevent people from getting the care they need. That’s why we are excited to share the news that Governor Murphy just signed a package of bills sponsored by state legislative Democrats to cap co-pays for EpiPens at $25, insulin at $35, and asthma inhalers at $50. 

Taken together, the three bills signed by Governor Murphy will cap out-of-pocket costs for some of the most in-demand medications, establish greater oversight of Pharmacy Benefit Managers, and promote transparency across the pharmaceutical supply chain. This bill package makes New Jersey only the second state in the nation to cap out of pocket costs for asthma inhalers and EpiPens in addition to capping consumer costs for insulin. 

We’re incredibly thankful to Governor Murphy, Senate President Scutari, and Assembly Speaker Coughlin for taking this decisive action to stand up for the middle class. NJDSC applauds all of the legislators who sponsored one or more of the three bills signed – Senators Joseph Vitale and Troy Singleton and Assemblyman John McKeon, in addition to Senators Nellie Pou, Linda Greenstein, and Vin Gopal and Assembly Members Roy Freiman, Angela McKnight, Robert Karabinchak, Bill Moen, Gabriela Mosquera, Annette Quijano, Paul Moriarty, Joseph Danielsen, Daniel Benson, and Verlina Reynolds-Jackson.
