2023 BOKNAL PROTEST HELD IN SEOUL, S. KOREA
Dear John,
On 7/8/2023, LCA and S. Korean sister organization Animal Liberation Wave (ALW), along with 29 other animal rights groups, co-hosted the annual Boknal protest in the heart of Seoul, S. Korea's capital city. Over 400 people attended the protest to demand an end to S. Korea's cruel dog meat trade.

Three Government Officials attended the event: MP Han-Jeoung-ae, who introduced federal legislation to end the dog meat trade; Seoul City Councilmember Kim Ji-hyang, who introduced legislation to ban dog and cat meat in Seoul; and MP Lee Jeong-mi, leader of S. Korea's Justice Party. Two other Government Officials sent messages of support: MP Park Hong-keun, Co-MP of the National Assembly's Animal Welfare Forum and MP Yong Hye-in, from S. Korea's Basic Income Party.
Before the protest, participants visited a flower dog art installation by LCA/ALW and left flowers in memory of dogs whose lives were lost in the meat trade. During the protest, Government Officials, and activists including ALW President Jiyen Lee, gave speeches demanding an end to the dog meat trade. After the speeches, activists marched through the Bosingk Pavilion in the center of Seoul, holding an LCA/ALW banner that read, "The Time is Now for Dog Meat Free Korea!".
Taking place during Boknal, the hottest days of the year when the consumption of dog meat soup peaks, the protest sheds light on the 1,000,000 dogs killed annually for meat in S. Korea and demands an immediate end to the country's cruel dog meat trade.
Sign the petition urging S. Korean President Yoon Suk-yeol to end the dog meat trade.
