Time is allotted throughout the training for questions, and participation is strongly encouraged. No prior knowledge of using data.census.gov is required for these classes.
Basics of Using the Census Application Programming Interface (API)
Join us in this hands-on class as we learn how to access data through the Census Data Application Programming Interface (API). You’ll learn the basics of using the Census API without the need for third-party software or programming knowledge. We'll start with the basics by explaining what is the API. Then we will walk through how to create custom API queries using just your internet browser, how to edit those queries using individual data variables and geographies, as well as how to save the retrieved data. Time is allotted throughout the training for questions and participation is strongly encouraged. Using two monitors is recommended for this class, if available.

Basics of Using the Microdata Access Tool in data.census.gov
These participatory classes walk you through examples of creating tables in the Microdata Access Tool (MDAT) within data.census.gov. Microdata Access on data.census.gov/mdat allows you to create custom tables that are not available in the pre-made tables on data.census.gov, without having to use your own statistical software or special programming.

Join us in this participatory class as we look at mapping capabilities in data.census.gov. You’ll learn the basics of mapping, including how to map data found in tables available in the site. Next you’ll learn how to use the mapping capabilities to discern between geographies and determine if they have changed over time. Then you’ll take a quick look at another great mapping tool offered by the Census Bureau—TIGERweb.

Time is allotted throughout the training for questions, and participation is strongly encouraged. No prior knowledge of using data.census.gov is required for these classes.
